9 Must-Follow Accounts for Foster Moms
Love it or hate it, you cannot deny that social media is here to stay and is a force to be reckoned with. Despite our best intentions, sometimes we slip into #doomscrolling, filling our time with content that is rarely uplifting.
Our foster families go through enough as it is and shouldn’t have to weed through their feed to find something worthy of their attention. Here are nine social media accounts every foster mom (and dad) should follow.
Catechesis Books
Their board book primers are a must-have for families who want to make disciples of their kids. Their color primer using Psalm 23 is stunningly beautiful, and we love their counting primer with theology basics (there is one I AM, two natures of Christ, three persons in the Trinity, etc.). Their social media page features different guides and resources for parents to get the most out of the season, whether it's Halloween, Epiphany, Advent, or Easter.
Little Way Chapel
Little Way Chapel “is a space for parents, ministers, catechists, educators and individuals of all Christian denominations to find tools and practices for following Jesus. These resources largely follow the church’s calendar using the Revised Common Lectionary and are written for use at home as well as congregational settings.” They have guides on how to celebrate Michaelmas with blackberry pie, short bios on church figures, and guides to various feast days in the church calendar.
Foster the Family
Foster the Family is a blog from foster mom Jaime Finn and is a resource recommended by some of our 1HOPE parents. This is a foster-specific page written by someone who knows exactly what you are going through as a foster parent.
Foster Parenting
Luara’s page is another recommended resource by one of our 1HOPE families. Her Instagram and YouTube are devoted to “Practical support for becoming a foster parent, trauma-informed parenting, and navigating foster care situations, providing confidence to get started.”
She Reads Truth
She Reads Truth is an online community of women who read the Bible every day using a reading plan. You can’t make disciples and be the light to Christ to foster children if you aren’t in the Word, so take advantage of this resource and get reading! Their community will help you recharge and re-engage.
Right Now Media
Right Now Media is a powerhouse of content for all ages. There are resources for parents, adults, professionals, and children. Every foster parent at 1HOPE for Kids has a free subscription to Right Now Media (contact mattw@1hopeforkids.org to access it).
The New Braunfels Foster Closet
The Foster Closet is a ministry out of 1HOPE that serves foster families from different agencies across our region. Anything you need, they have it (or can get it), including car seats, cribs, clothes, shoes, and more. And it is all FREE to foster families. Follow their page to stay apprised of announcements and events!
nextTalk
The digital age has created a warzone online, exposing families and children to dangers that we didn’t have to think about 30 years ago. nextTalk is devoted to helping parents “navigate tech, culture, and faith with your kids.”
Your church’s social media account
You were created for community, and community is a gracious gift from God for all believers. By following your church’s page, you can stay apprised of events and activities, discipleship opportunities, service projects, and more. Stay connected to stay supported.
