Thankful: Giving Tuesday
For the next three days, we will share about three events that have the staff at 1HOPE thrilled with thanks. Today is the first part, focusing on yesterday's Giving Tuesday campaign.
Giving Tuesday follows the post-Thanksgiving Christmas shopping spree that starts with Black Friday. Most non-profits run a campaign on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving to kick off their end-of-year giving. Each year 1HOPE uses Giving Tuesday to focus on our sister organization, The New Braunfels Foster Closet.
The Foster Closet is a ministry of 1HOPE, supporting not just our foster families, but those from across our region and state. It is difficult to source supplies quickly when you get a child placed in your home at 11:00 p.m. the night before, so the Foster Closet is dedicated to providing what you need most, like car seats.
This year, our Giving Tuesday goal was to raise funds to purchase ten car seats at $60 each and ten booster seats at $40 each, for $1000 total. Near the end of the afternoon we had not received any donations, and I drove home thinking about what we needed to do different next year. By the time I got home everything changed.
God exceeded our goal by almost 4x using your generous donations. Our online giving was at $2,371 by the end of the day, including a new 1HOPE Defender (shout out to my mom), and after checking Instagram, we saw that someone was raising funds on our behalf and had already pledged $1500. That is enough to purchase 32 car seats and 47 booster seats (Author's note: None of us at 1HOPE went to school for math, and I used AI to help figure that out).
I am overwhelmed by God's grace and continually humbled by how he comes through. I can't wait to see what he does during our year-end campaign in December. We specifically want to thank Annette L., Andrea R. (a new Defender!), David B., Kristi P., and Ashlee N. for supporting the families at 1HOPE for Kids.
It’s never too late to donate. For $30 a month or more, you can be a 1HOPE Defender and help bridge the gap that state funds cannot reach. Defenders’ gifts also contribute to training and equipping foster parents with the knowledge and skills needed to lovingly parent traumatized children for the glory of God.
