Free Things to Do in San Antonio with Kids in 2026

School's out, the heat is already creeping past 90, and the kids are looking at you like you're supposed to have a plan. We get it — and so does one of our foster moms, who did the hard work of scouring Instagram so you don't have to (Thank you S.L.!).

Whether you're a foster parent, adoptive parent, or just a parent trying to survive summer without maxing out the credit card, this list is for you. Here are five completely free things to do with your kids in San Antonio (and the surrounding area) in 2026.

Kids Bowl Free — Yes, Bowling Is Still Fun in 2026

Don't knock it until you've watched a six-year-old do a victory dance over a spare. Kids Bowl Free is a national program with participating bowling alleys that offers 2 free games per child, every single day of the summer.

Parents, you get a free strike on your score card if you know what movie this is from.

In the San Antonio area, you can bowl at:

And if you're in the New Braunfels area:

Note that shoe rentals typically aren't included, so bring your own or budget a few dollars. Register at kidsbowlfree.com to get started.

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program — Read 8 Books, Get a Free Book

The brick-and-mortar bookstore that somehow outlasted the Amazon apocalypse is rewarding your kids for reading this summer. Kids in grades 1–6 can read any 8 books, log them on the reading journal, and then redeem a free book between July 1 and August 31.

It's a great way to keep little minds busy during the long weeks between vacations — and hey, a trip to the bookstore is an outing in itself.

Get the details and download the reading journal here.

Pizza Hut Book It Program — Read Books, Earn Pizza

While your kids are logging books for Barnes & Noble, go ahead and log them for Pizza Hut's Book It program too — because why not earn free pizza and a free book for the same reading?

Millennial parents, this one's for you and your nostalgia. Remember sitting in those red booths under the stained glass lamps, proudly presenting your reading certificate for a personal pan pizza? You can recreate that moment with your own kids.

Free Museum Days in San Antonio — A Local Mom Did the Research

One San Antonio mom tracked down and compiled every free museum day in the city so the rest of us don't have to. Her reel covers a solid lineup including:

  • San Antonio Museum of Art

  • Briscoe Western Art Museum

  • The DoSeum

  • Witte Museum

  • San Antonio Fire Museum

  • And more

Check out her full list on Instagram — and give her a follow while you're at it. She did the work.

Free Summer Movies at Santikos Theaters

Sometimes you just need a cool, dark room, some buttery popcorn, and a movie to make it through a Texas summer afternoon. Santikos Theaters is offering free summer movies for families at select locations this season.

This is a great option for the days when it's simply too hot to be outside and you need a change of scenery.
